Outgrowing the Furniture

Have I mentioned that Irish Wolfhounds grow quickly? I may have a few times. Yesterday was Feargus’ monthly trip to the Doggy Day SPA. He loves to visit the girls who work there to enjoy a little pampering and doggy treats. While he is there, he gets weighed (so I can ensure he is still getting the correct dosage of heartworm preventative), gets a bath, have his ears cleaned, and gets a nail trim. He comes home blow-dried with a cute bandana that is styled for the closest holiday, in this case the 4th of July.

He is now 7 months old. He weighed in at 102 pounds breaking the 100-pound mark. Looking at Feargus, it is hard for me to see his size, I see him every day, and he is still a puppy to me. However, Other people we meet when walking outside comment on his size and always ask what kind of dog he is. He now barks when<br />strangers come to the house, and his bark is no longer the cute puppy bark and has changed into a deep and somewhat threatening adult male Wolfhound bark. People working around the house are nervous because of this. He is still attending his obedience training, and we are working toward his Canine Good Citizen certification.

He has also started to outgrow the furniture in the house. He takes up a whole side of the bed, and he overhangs the chair in my office. I guess it is a good thing I do not have any sofas in the living room! I would be angry with him for getting on the furniture, but I love this dog so much that I ignore his indiscretion and choose to laugh and enjoy his company.
